InstructionConflict Resolution Plan Assignment Instructions: Identify a conflict to discuss for this assignment: (choose one of the following) a conflict you are currently experiencing OR a conflict you have observed or past conflict where you were involved. The identified conflict might involve a situation at work, a recurring issue with family, or even something related to your academic pursuits. If you are experiencing a current conflict, you will design a Conflict Resolution Plan to assist in resolving this conflict. If you have observed a conflict or were involved in a past conflict, you will discuss the conflict (like a case study), resulting in a Conflict Resolution Plan that could have been used. In a 3-4 page paper develop the conflict resolution plan using the following outline: NUMBER AND LABEL your paper with the following three sections: INTRODUCTION: Provide a brief but specific description of the conflict you have selected to use. It should include. an explanation of its nature and context, who is involved, your relationship to the conflict. CONFLICT RESOLUTION MODEL: Provide a detailed outline of how you would apply the CRM to a conflict situation. The 5 Steps of the Conflict Resolution Model: Misunderstanding or True Disagreement? Define the Problem and Collect the Facts Clarify Perceptions Generate Options for Mutual Gain Implement Options for Integrity Discuss the conflict that you are either currently experiencing OR one you observed/experienced in the past. Address each step in the CRM separately, numbered and identified (ie. 1. Misunderstanding or True Disagreement). Define the step. Explain its importance. If using a current conflict: What is the plan to implement each step. Be specific with details. If using a past/observed conflict: What occurred in this step? Be specific to whether the step was implemented. If not, why, and what was the outcome? If implemented, what was the outcome? In developing the plan, your discussion should: demonstrate an understanding of communication styles explain how to deal with various types of difficult people use a win/win approach to conflict resolution integrate other interpersonal communication aspects that you have learned through the past weeks that might be applicable. SUMMARY: Provide a brief summary analysis of the conflict resolution. In analyzing the conflict, use the following questions to summarize. What general strategies were used OR could have been used? How did participants respond OR how would you expect them to respond? To what degree do you understand the conflict resolution to be successful OR do you feel the observed/past conflict was successful? Why or why not? Introduction and Alignment: Resolving conflict in a positive manner is a skill that can be developed and practiced. It is through proper identification and understanding of conflict that allows for effective resolutions, some of which may yield positive outcomes. This assignment will provide an opportunity to create a conflict resolution plan for a real situation. Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to: Utilize the 5 Step Conflict Resolution Plan (Chapter 13 in the textbook) for developing a conflict resolution plan using appropriate communication strategies or assess and evaluate the level of success of a past conflict utilizing the 5 Step Conflict Resolution Plan.
