Instruction1. With which school in Anyon’s study do you identify? In other words, when you reflect on your upbringing, what type of school(s) did you attend? - Middle class 2. Discuss, in detail, how your schooling experience relates to one or more of the above categories in Anyon’s study and provide specific examples from the article and your schooling experiences. Feel free to problematize, critique, and consider alternatives that would have improved your experience or the experience of others in your school. You may also applaud the areas where your school(s) succeeded in breaking a lot of detrimental effects of the hidden curriculum. 3. If you are not yet teaching: Identify a target school where you intend to teach, and describe in which of Anyon’s categories it belongs. If you are not pursuing a teaching career, target your current or future workplace and describe in which category you see that place belonging (this applies to other sectors, too!) Then… - Discuss how you foresee a risk for you and/or colleagues to perpetuate the hidden curriculum - Discuss ideas you have to ensure you and/or colleagues do not allow the hidden curriculum to impact what happens in the school - Discuss some thoughts you have regarding how you can push back on hidden curriculum structures present in your school, and - identify some specific action items to disrupt the cycle of social class stratification.
