The fudge factor enables you to rationalize and justify behaviors like lying and cheating without feeling bad about it. As such, according to Dan Ariely’s data, 70% of people lie and cheat on a small level. According to egoism and utilitarianism, there is nothing inherently wrong with lying or cheating. The moral permissibility of lying and cheating depends on the consequence of the action. For Kant, lying and cheating are never morally permissibly. Lying and cheating violate both versions of the categorical imperative, thus making the actions irrational. In your opinion, is lying and cheating ever morally justified?
