InstructionAssignment 14 - Geocoding with ArcGIS.com In this assignment you will take a comma separated value file (spreadsheet) of Historical Black Colleges and Universities in the United States and geocode them, translating the spreadsheet data into a map. Step 1: Download the CSV file: HBCU.csv Step 2: Open the file in Excel to view it. You are just looking at it here, see which columns of information there are in the file. You will geocode based on the Address column. Step 3: Go to ArcGIS.com Step 4: Sign in with you ESRI Account Step 5: Click on Map to get a blank map. Step 5: Choose a Basemap Step 6: Click Add, choose Add Layer from File Step 7: Choose the HBCU.csv file, and click on 'import' Step 8: Verify that the menu has address set to address, all other values should be set to 'not used' Click add layer, the web GIS platform will convert the addresses to long lat coordinates, and place points for each HBCU. Step 9: Choose Name for Attribute to show, then choose Heat Map for Symbology. Step 10: Either Print the map as a PDF, so share map as a link, Include a few sentences about the distribution that you see of HBCUs.
