Do you think psychopaths should be criminally liable for their crimes? Yes I think psychopaths should be liable for their crimes. They have done horrible inhumane things that you could ever imagine with no remorse. Even though (Stephen Morse 2008) concluded that severe psychopaths are neither morally responsible nor deserving of blame and punishment because they do not understand the point of morality and a lack of conscious and the capacity of moral understanding and rationality. I think they should be institutions so that society is protected from such behavior. I understand that psychiatrists want to learn and understand the behaviors but there still has to be consequences. Medical doctors and psychiatrist research these types of people to help the criminal justice system or human service practitioners to better understand and deter other criminals that are implementing similar behaviors. Psychological and neuroscientific evidence argue that highly psychopathic individuals with emotional deficit that impair moral behavior, should not be held criminally responsible for their antisocial actions. I also think we should consider the victims and their family. Some people would think they should be punished in prison or death penalty or institutions and never get out because of the safety of us all.
