Imagine this scenario: you are comforting a dying aunt, and you wish to draw on the wisdom of the great religious traditions of the world to help. She is not committed to one particular tradition, and asks you to give her a fair and balanced view of different religions’ view of suffering, death, and the afterlife. Written as a letter to your aunt, provide a general account of the view of life and death found in TWO of the ‘families’ of world religions covered in the course. Explain how each ‘family’, respectively, broadly frames the question of life and death, including what makes a meaningful and purposeful life, and how each in turn might offer comfort to someone close to death. The idea is to broadly compare and contrast the religious ‘families’, so you should briefly touch on what you think these religious explanations have in common, yet what also may be fundamental differences between them (note: this is NOT asking you to ‘choose’ which is ‘best’).
