For this project, you will be conducting a statistical study using an existing dataset of your choosing and summarizing your findings in PowerPoint. Your PowerPoint presentation* will include an executive summary, introduction, description of your data set, univariate and bivariate analyses, the limitations of your study and recommendations for future studies. *Please note The report is to be submitted in PowerPoint. Report (PowerPoint) Guidelines 1. Executive Summary: Although this is the last slide you will create, it goes at the front of your presentation. It is a summary of your findings and recommendations. (Guideline: 1 slide) 2. Objective and Introduction: Objective is a brief statement outlining what you set out to accomplish. Introduction is an elaboration of the objective. It should include a brief description of the motivation and why this study is significant and interesting to the audience. Include any relevant background information here (for example, related studies) (Guideline: 1-2 slides) 3. Data set: Provide a description of your data set and the variables included in the analysis. Reference link to data set. (Guideline: 1 slide) 4. Analysis & Discussion: This is the most important part of your report, because here, you show that you understand the results of your study. Each slide should include: i) Page 2 of 3 a visualization (chart/table), ii) relevant statistics/inferences, ii) description of results and interpretation (were the results as expected?) (Guideline: 5-7 slides inclusive of graphs and charts, one slide per analysis ) i. Univariate Analysis (3 minimum): Carry out univariate data analyses to address the relevant objectives. Include only appropriate graphical displays and statistics. Apply methods of descriptive statistics first. After describing the data, use methods of inferential statistics. For example, estimate the unknown values of parameters by confidence intervals. (Your report must include at least 3 univariate analyses). Bonus points will be given for one additional univariate analysis. ii. Bivariate Analysis (2 minimum): Carry out bivariate data analyses on your bivariate objectives. Be sure that you describe the relationship between the variables first (as always, interpret your graphs first, then interpret any relevant statistic), and then make an inference about the population. For example, use hypothesis testing to determine if there is a relationship between 2 variables (correlation analysis or Chi-square) (Your report must include at least 2 bivariate analyses). Bonus points will be given for one additional bivariate analysis. 5. Limitations/Caveats: Discuss any limitations or caveats of the study, if any, and suggest ways to improve it. (A small sample size is often a limitation but you should think about other limitations as well.) (Guideline: 1 slide)
