For this Reflective Journal you will be required to apply the knowledge and expertise that you gained in the course this semester by “weighing in” on a very important and timely topic – the impact of moving schools online amid the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential impact on children in the United States. First, please read the two articles that can be found in this week’s folder related to this topic (A Harvard Homeschool Expert Says He’s ‘Not Convinced Schools Should have Ever Closed’ and 'Quarantines and School Shut-Downs Could Cause a Surge in Child Abuse Cases According to Experts'). Then come back and answer the following questions: Share your opinion based on your expertise that you have gained during the semester. Do you believe that there will likely be a surge in child abuse cases amid the COVID 19 pandemic? Why or why not? Support your stance. What preventative measures can be taken to help parents in coping during this unprecedented time? What ideas do you have that might help with preventing abuse? Think about the important measures being put in place with social distancing (so that might limit face to face meetings) but also the availability of technology resources (like Zoom or other important apps). You are also free to add in any additional articles or information from other resources as a part of this assignment, just make sure that you properly cite your sources, both in text, and at the conclusion of your assignment. Remember, you must answer all portions of each question in order to earn full credit. Your answer must be written using full and complete sentences.
