InstructionAnti-Asian Violence which has always been a part of U.S. History and the lived experiences of Asians, Pacific Islanders and Desi Americans from 1750's on. . . However, the pandemic has unleashed anti-Asian violence in exponentially devastating ways. . . Though during the previous administration, former President Trump openly referred to the coronavirus as "Kung Flu," "the China virus," and "the foreign virus." President Biden with Vice President Harris (who is part-South Asian) has signed a bill addressing anti-Asian hate violence. Yet, the anti-Asian acts of harassment and violence have not subsided. It is easy to focus on the "individual racist" or the individual who is ignorant, fearful or prejudiced. However, in order to elevate our discussion, I would like for us to think about how social, historical, economic, and political contexts matter when patterned behaviors and activities occur. What are some of your thoughts about anti-Asian violence that has been prevalent in our society?
