InstructionWRITE A CASE STUDY -- I. ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS: ***(see Part II below for definition of what a case study is)*** WRITE A CASE STUDY BASED ON YOUR OWN RESEARCH. MINIMUM 1000 WORDS ( about 8 paragraphs). • For this Case Study, you will choose a company that had a problem and found a solution. Choose a company that falls within the field of your career goals. • Begin with- • STEP 1: Research and choose 1 company in your field that you have interest in (maybe, choose a company you don't know, challenge yourself), and then • STEP 2: FIND a thesis topic from the list below that most interests you. Write a solid, clear thesis: "The aim of this case study is...." and then stick to that focus throughout the case study. (Feel free to email me for brief feedback on your thesis or company idea.) • Begin with a first paragraph defining the issue.... include the industry and company name and location base, which year(s) it happened, and what was changed overall ( a product, a method, advertising, etc) • STEP 3: Do research, gather information as evidence, to support your examination of this advertising. • STEP 4: Add a References page in APA citation format, for videos and research sources. • STEP 5: Revise for clarity and conciseness. Correct mechanical errors. o • COMPANY CHOICE-- research a company's website, news information, social media channels can be helpful to make your choice. You may even contact by phone or email, your company for first-hand information. (Note that you may have to search for their channel, it's not always the first listed on YouTube, because others use large brand names to attract viewers, so LOOK well for their brand channel) (avoid choosing a company just because you have heard of them): • **THEME/TOPIC LIST for your CASE STUDY ---TIPS: **PICK ONE FROM BELOW** o THEME OF ADVERTISING (MARKETING CAMPAIGNS). This is a case study on how the company addresses a problem of something existing in today's world using visuals. Use 3 or more examples from advertising, or social media channels, or advertising videos from your chosen company. EXAMPLES: this can be anything such as quality/craftmanship/colors/shapes of product, specific environmental issues, sense of fantasy/adventure, social issues such as human relationships, social space, location settings, diversity, the targeting of a specific type or age of audience of viewers, etc, or your choice, this is up to you. o THEME OF METHODOLOGY This is a case study on how the company addresses a problem in business method, how they perform any business action. o THEME OF PRODUCT This is a case study on how the company addresses a problem in product, how they perform a change related to a product. o THEME OF REPUTATION This is a case study on how the company addresses a problem in reputation, how they fix/adjust a perceived public perception about any issue related to the company. OTHER VALUABLE TIPS--. Use visuals in your case study, since the case study is based on visual business marketing.... The final paper length is based on 1000 + word count, not number pages. o Ask, what is your feeling about what you see? Your case study can agree or disagree with what the company is intending to portray, presenting the company as successful or failing at what it may have tried to portray. o Other ideas may be the potentials of using certain hashtags, campaigns, video series, or non-profit collaborations and determining what made them successful. o if your topic thesis is better served by using videos from SEVERAL companies, that is, from 2 to 3 companies, you may make a multi-company case study. There were 2 links of this kind of case study as examples in the first assignment. • **Format: see the examples in Assignment 1 and choose whichever format best fits your style and topic thesis. • **The SOLUTION is described in the case study, but a brief recommendation for future change of 1 or 2 paragraphs, may be needed going forward. A case study examines change, for better or worse, and analyzes that, within the 1 specific company. A larger, more comprehensive solution is usually another piece of writing, either included in a whole industry White Paper or more specifically, a PROPOSAL, which are both later assignments this semester. You may suggest however, an idea of solution, in conclusion. II. UNDERSTAND WHAT IS A CASE STUDY • Generally, case studies are an in-depth investigation of a single individual, group, company, or event, to explore the causes of underlying principles/ model/ structure. The main purpose of a case study, therefore, is to find a real-life application of a theoretical concept or solution. Case study writing can focus on a certain program, person, project or business, but for this class, you will write a BUSINESS case study of a specific company (company list below), • A business case study is a researched, empirical inquiry that investigates a specific company or companies, looking at a strategy that the company performed. It examines a phenomenon within its real-life context. • Case studies are a marketing staple. For example, businesses may use them to show how their product or service has been implemented successfully by customers. • It is an examination of a past event, that may/may not have improved or benefited a company or brand, in some way. • The company will be chosen by you, a company that is in your career field, There are examples of THESIS/TOPIC IDEAS GIVEN. • GOAL of a Case Study: It should 1) identify key issues and/or problems, 2) outline and assess the course(s) of action that was taken, and 3) draw appropriate conclusions, such as potential, specific benefits or not to the company. Case studies help us generate new ideas, even adopting ideas in other industries. • A case study begins with the thesis and the background information (not more than 1-2 paragraphs) on a topic. The body paragraphs follow with evidence discussing the business strategies used. Visuals are often used to make points (charts, screenshots, graphs). The conclusion may suggest more research or briefly recommend a solution.
