InstructionContext: In the movie, Reign Over Me, the lead character Charlie was brought by a close friend, Alan, to see a therapist. Charlie has not been functioning well since the death of his wife and four daughters in the terrorist attacks on 9/11, and Alan is trying to get him some help. However, Charlie has been demonstrating resistance to the therapeutic process, often not speaking in session, or behaving like a child. In this scene from the movie, Charlie finally begins discussing the loss of his family. *This is a powerful, emotional scene that depicts grief and traumatic loss*. Instructions: Please watch the short video clip, as Charlie is sitting outside of his therapist's office, paying attention to Charlie’s behavior and observe his mental status. Write a summary paragraph of your Mental Status Exam on the main character Charlie, as if he was your client. Using the example from p.42, table 2.5 in Kilgus, Maxmen and Ward (2016) as an example. Be sure to include the rationale for your reported evaluation within each area of the Mental status. A common phrase to include in your assessment is, "as evidenced by...", to justify your claim. For example, "client's behavior appeared anxious as evidenced by client tapping their foot" or "client demonstrated limited concentration, they were observed as frequently scanning the room demonstrated difficulty remaining focused on topic". Note This would read, for example "client appears", "client demonstrated", or "client presented with" versus concretely stating "client's mood is depressed".
