InstructionASSIGNTMENT IS DUE TONIGHT 11PM PLEASEEEE CANADIAN TIME!!! I hope your midterm went smoothly! For part 2 this week, we will be looking at King Arthur and the Arthurian Legend. King Arthur is a legend that has been so ingrained in the psyche of the Western world that, apparently, we know about the story without ever having formally studied it. According to one theory, our literature and popular culture is so full of Arthurian references that we just know the story. So, typically, we test that theory and post what we know about Arthur before listening to lectures about him. Because we just wrote a midterm and Condensed courses are crazy, we're going to skip the discussion this week. I'll adjust the gradebook to reflect this change. I'll post last semester's class version of Arthur with some of my own thoughts thrown in: 2. Learning Tasks Read and listen to this week's PowerPoint lectures on Arthur. It's meant to be relaxing, so pop some popcorn and watch a movie! Your short write up can be submitted next Sunday. Please view the files in the recommended order The Arthurian Legend Background Chivalry: The Life of a Knight Excalibur The last class's Version of the King Arthur Legend: Our Class Version Arthurian Legend.docx You get to watch an Arthurian themed movie this week. Listen to the Excalibur slides even if you don't watch the Excalibur movie--You might find some interesting information about the legend. Here is a link to a summary of the Arthurian Legend: http://www.enotes.com/topics/le-morte-darthurYou can skim through Le Morte D'Arthur to get a sense of what the 'original' story is. This might help you with your comparison to the movie/tv show. Discussion: Cancelled! Yay! :) Learning Tasks: Watch a Movie! Assignment: Watch an Arthurian themed movie and compare it to the Legend. If you have access to Netflix, Arthurian themed movies and tv shows such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Monty Python's Search For the Grail, BBC's Merlin, etc... are all available. There are new series, such as Cursed, which show the Arthur story from a different perspective. You don't have to binge watch an entire series, you can discuss your thoughts after a few episodes, if you like. If you have Disney+, Sword in the Stone and A Kid in King Arthur's Court among others are available. If you don't have either streaming service, and you're on main campus, the library has Excalibur, Search for the Grail, and The Last Crusade for you to borrow. Let me know if there is absolutely no way you can access any movies and we will come up with a Plan B for you. If possible, though, grab the family or roommates, pop some popcorn and enjoy your weekly assignment. Click here for some more information about the write up for this week's activity: Movie Activity
