InstructionDiscussion: How can the many socioemotional changes of adolescence impact family systems? Respond to the question theoretically and then provide a minimum of two examples, without sharing names if they are personally known to you. Classmate Discussion Response: Adolescents will eventually have social and emotional changes that could possibly impact the family systems. An individual is constantly growing over time and creating their own mind and thoughts and being able to understand what those thoughts are. Adolescents will sooner understand what is going on in their heads; desires, insecurities, and differences between them and other people. The adolescent is then forming their independent identity and slowly learning and developing to be an adult (Kali & Cavanaugh, 2016). Changes in the adolescent socially consist of values and how they set themselves up as a stronger individual with expectations and knowing from right or wrong or the media because it has been such a huge impact, how the individual communicates with those around. An adolescent will also change emotionally regarding their self-awareness, how they look at themselves, and the way that people view them but also their mood and feelings, the adolescent is still in the process of learning how to control one's emotions which is the reason why at times the feelings and emotions can be fairly intense. For an example of social change, Maya and Ayla are both 15, just got brand new phones. Their mothers have told them to be careful and do not get too caught up in the internet and social media. Weeks have gone by and Maya has gained more followers than Ayla and Maya then begins to think that Ayla is not that popular. Maya begins to value media and what influences her to be more popular rather than an actual friend. An example of emotional change, Carter is 16 and his girlfriend just broke up with him. Carter is unsure of how to feel because he wants to be sad but does not want his friends to see and to show a vulnerable side. Carter begins to be more quiet and soft-spoken because he is sad from the breakup and does not know how to handle it. His parents try to speak with him but he is being unresponsive to his feelings. This shows that Carter does not know how to control or express his emotions in a healthy way.
