InstructionDiet Analysis Cronometer Essay. Responses to the following questions need to be typed, double spaced. You should answer each question using full sentences, paragraphs, and college level writing. No bullet points. Cutting and pasting information from an outside source will earn "0" points. Information should be in your own words. Your finished essay should be a minimum of 2-3-full pages, double spaced, 12 pt font Please start a new paragraph with each numbered question. What personal and family health conditions should be considered in evaluating your diet (family history of heart disease, diabetes, overweight/obesity, diabetes during pregnancy, etc.) You may need to speak with your relatives to gather this information. (2 points) How important is the “health factor” in your choice of foods? Explain why it is important or not important to you. (1 point) What major factors influence your food choices such as flavor, convenience, etc. You should be able to list a minimum of 3. (3 points) Look over your mineral intake on your Cronometer “Nutrition Report”. Tell me what percentage you achieved for potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus (2 points) What percentage did you achieve for sodium? Did your sodium level exceed 100%? (1 point) What diseases might you be at increased risk of developing due to your intake/deficiency of these minerals? Be sure to tie in information we have discussed in class regarding these minerals. (2 points) Do you need to make changes to sodium intake? If so, what foods do you need to reduce, replace, or eliminate? You should state at least 3 foods from your cronometer 3-day food record (consider the film we watched on sodium levels being excessive in restaurant food, processed and packaged foods- be sure to list foods that need changing from your 3 day food record, not just random foods (3 points) 5. Review your three-day food record that you initially entered into the cronometer program. What fruits or vegetables did you consume (at least 1/2 cup or more) over your three-day time frame? (1 point) Did you consume a minimum of 5 cups of fruits/vegetables each day from all colors including dark green, deep orange/yellow, and red fruit and/or vegetable? If not, what specific fruits and/or vegetables do you need to add to your diet to increase your intake of phytochemicals? List at least 4. (2 points) 6. Looking over the results from "Evaluating Your Macronutrients and Dietary Fiber" AND/OR your answers to the above questions: What are the 2 most important changes you could make to improve your diet? Be sure you are using your results to answer this question. You will lose points if you tell me something needs improvement, and you are meeting the guidelines. (2 points) What specific foods from your 3-day food record could you eliminate, reduce the portion of, or replace with a healthier option to meet the goals you set above? What foods might you add to your diet to meet the goals you set above? Be sure you are specific, and these food changes are related to what you answered in question above. For example, it one of your changes is to reduce saturated fat, you need to list specific foods you would change from your 3-day food record to lower saturated fat. Eating more vegetables would not lower saturated fat. Think about foods you like to eat and would be willing to add. You should tell me a minimum of 4 specific food changes or additions, 2 for each goal. (4 points) If you were able to incorporate the changes you have listed in question #6 above, what effect would these have on your health and chronic disease risk? Be sure you are connecting the information you have learned about chronic disease and diet that you have learned about this semester (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, cancer) to your dietary improvements.
