He says this falls under psychology/sociology and not the natural sciences.... he gave examples such as: • Seed germination • Plant growth • Food preference of invertebrates • Habitat use of invertebrate • Movement of invertebrates • Growth rates of invertebrates • Effectiveness of antimicrobial disinfectants • Bread mold growth • Decomposition rates • Chemical reaction rates • Paper airplane design • Bounce height of different balls • Catapulting objects • Parachutes • Magnet strength Can we fix this??   • More feedback from instructor: The main reason your paper was returned was a lack of quantifiable data. You need to measure the actual growth of the seedlings. Zero counts as a measurement, so they did not grow, you can report 0cm or inches. Once you have quantifiable data, most of the revision requests will be satisfied. The only other thing that is missing is an uncontrolled confounding variable. What is something that could have affected the results that you did not control for? How could this have affected your results?

  • Corrections needed per instructor: The dependent variable statement is incorrect. An easy way to understand the independent/dependent variable relationship is to remember that you are changing something (IV) in anticipation of seeing an effect from that change (DV). What did you measure between the iterations of your experiment? That is the dependent variable. I didn’t see an external confounding variable specifically described, nor an uncontrolled confounding variable. Please describe those for the evaluator.
