The purpose of this paper is to identify barriers to entry for blacks in America which have resulted in in the accounting profession's disproportional race demographics. By examining the various and historical entrants into the accounting profession, education and professional experience are two significant barriers identified. This paper adds to the discussion as to why there are so few black accounting professionals within the profession. The sources attached (works cited) should be used to form opinion. Additional sources relevant to accounting can be added to facilitate discussion.

Instruction
This is a 'contemporary issues' paper. The final paper should contain no less than 20 bibliographical citations with a minimum length of 18 double-spaced (11 font) pages (excluding the bibliography). Margins should be 1.5 inches on the left and 1.0 inches on the top, bottom and right. The final thesis should be written professionally, not in first person, with appropriate headings, pagination, and properly marked exhibits. The style and format of the thesis should generally follow: Daniels, Roger B., Braswell, M. and Beeler, J. (2010), “Accounting and Financial Reporting in a Late 18th Century American Charity,” The Accounting Historians Journal 37 (2): 39-65. The final version of the thesis is due by noon on Friday, April 16. Students not meeting this deadline or those who submit a substandard document will be subject to fail the course.
