InstructionThis week's quiz is strictly over the novel, Sam Bass. The pages assigned above from GTT are just for background and are not on the quiz. The quiz will be structured much like that over Broken Spears, with a multiple choice/matching section, followed by a five-point essay. Instead of a twenty-point essay, you'll have two ten point essays instead. Closer to the time of the quiz, I'll give you clear instructions on how to prepare for the essays. In the meantime, study questions are attached below that will help you prepare. I. Identify and state the importance of Jenny. What role does she play in the very last part of the novel? (This is a five-point short essay that can be answered well in three or four good sentences) (Sam Bass) II. Pick ANY ONE of the following characteristics of the classic social bandit or noble robber and explain fully whether or not it applies to Sam Bass: 1. The noble robber begins his career of outlawry not by crime but as the victim of injustice, or through being persecuted by the authorities. 2. He takes from the rich to give to the poor. Answer in at least six or seven good sentences and cite at least one page from the book to get credit for your answer. And here is the final essay question. (GTT) 1. Describe the disaster that befell the Sam Bass gang in Round Rock. How full was Sam's deathbed confession? What else was notable about his final hours? (Answer in six or seven good sentences and cite at least one page from the book to get credit.) 2. Why did Sam Bass come to Texas? Why did he become an outlaw? Why would Dad Egan be so determined to capture him? (Answer in six or seven good sentences and cite at least one page from the book to get credit.)
