Choose One of the Following 2 Options Technical Concerns for the Rhetorical Analysis: THIS IS AN ESSAY!!! This is Rhetorical Analysis Essay. You must have at least 750 words. (between 750 and 1000 is ideal) You must have all of the pieces of a complete essay: introduction, body and conclusion You will have 2 sources for this essay o One of the class readings (King Jr. or Rodriguez) o One peer reviewed, scholarly journal article with an opposing or differing view on the topic You must use proper MLA form You must have a works cited page. Technical Concerns for the Annotated bibliography: THIS IS NOT AN ESSAY!!! This is an Annotated Bibliography with an abstract on the front. You must have an abstract on the front of your Annotated Bibliography You will have 5 entries in your annotated bibliography from 4 TCC database texts o One of the readings from class (King Jr. or Rodriguez) o Four peer reviewed, scholarly journal articles with opposing or differing views on the topic Your annotations must be structured in proper MLA form You must turn in your annotated texts with your annotated bibliography and abstract. IMPORTANT: the internet is off limits. Only databases from the TCC library are acceptable. Technical Notes for the Annotated Bibliography: 1. For each source you must prepare a Works Cited entry using standard MLA format. Be sure your material is alphabetized in the standard MLA format. 2. For each source you must write an evaluation paragraph of the work that includes a brief summary of the material discussed in the article (approx. 15 sentences). The second paragraph is a personal opinion as to the value of the article and a recommendation to others (approx. 5 sentences). 3. ***In each annotation, you must include at least one direct quote from the article. For the parenthetical citation of the “direct quote” use the page number, if available, or use the author’s name, if available, or, if no other information is available, use a prominent word from the title. For example: (3) or (Morrison) or (“Sweetness”) The citation information is the same for either choice (novel or author). This support material is to be presented in the evaluation paragraph, not in the opinion/recommendation paragraph. 4. Turn in all bibliographies together in a pocket folder. Put the abstract and the bibliography in the right- hand pocket of the folder. In the left-hand pocket, place all copies (only pages actually used in your research; 1st page MUST be included) of database source material. I must see ALL resource material; only bibliographies with sources will be evaluated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grading Criteria: Typed Final Draft 100 points Writing a Rhetorical Analysis: 1. Choose one of the essays we are covering in class: “Three Ways of Meeting Oppression” “Blaxicans & Other Reinvented Americans” 2. Find, in the databases, a scholarly article or essay written about this same topic that has a differing view or perspective. 3. Actively read and Annotated the texts specifically looking for the author strategies and the ways in which the arguments are similar and different 4. Craft an essay comparing and contrasting the two expressing a clear thesis statement that does one of the following: Names one argument superior to the other for some reason Names one author’s strategies superior to the other for some reason Identifies some new or necessary perspective on this topic 5. Make sure that each body paragraph includes properly cited evidence from both sources unified by a clear topic sentence, development and analysis. 6. Make sure both sources are listed on your Works Cited page Writing the Annotated Bibliography: 1. Choose one of the topics we are reading about during the essay unit: Identity Oppression 2. For this assignment, you will prepare five annotated bibliography entries. You must include sources with differing views/perspectives on some aspect of this topic according to the technical requirements. 3. Abstract Instructions~ WRITE YOUR ABSTRACT OF THE ENTIRE ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY LAST: From your research material, you must write an extended paragraph that is a concise introduction to your entire annotated bibliography. The abstract must include each author and each title of the articles, and a one or two sentence summary of the main point in each article. The summary sentences are usually your topic sentence of your extended paraphrase. You also need to include a sentence or two describing your overall judgements about your findings on this topic. This is the first page of your annotated bibliography and will include the heading and the title of your research.
