Which sociological theoretical paradigm would be most useful for analyzing the political and cultural context of Baldwin's life and why? In answering this question, draw extensively on the film's representation of Baldwin and the historical context he lived through. Imagine you are trying to explain to someone how a sociologist would evaluate the film. What paradigm would they apply? Compare and contrast at least TWO of the theoretical paradigms presented in your textbook to make your case. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach and provide a well-reasoned logical argument for the paradigm you believe would be most useful for examining the pervasiveness of racism in American during Baldwin’s life, and accounting for his experience of it. An exemplary paper will discuss the role of racism in America during Baldwin’s life and his response to it. Use the archival footage presented in the film and Baldwin’s words as your supporting evidence in discussing these issues and making your argument.
