Instruction1- Choose an agency or Human Service Profession you are interested in learning more about. This can be a social work agency, case work (DCPP: Division Child Protection and Placement, ARC: Adoption Resource Center), police, firefighters, social welfare, social policy writers/advocates, oncology, hospital outpatient clinic, AA/NA, soup kitchen, foster care, court system (drug court) IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program), Homeless shelter, ect. Using the agency’s website, read about their services and begin to imagine yourself working there. What thoughts, feelings, and actions does it begin to elicit: excitement, nerves, joy, empathy, disgust, … 2-Get in touch with a professional case worker, Social worker, organizer, or director of program to set up an observation/ Q&A time and date, (can be by Telehelath/Zoom if the agency does not allow in person observations at this time or you are unable to actively participate in in person observation). 3-Create yourself a list of questions you would like to ask 5-10 questions. 4-Observe agency through a tour, participate in a staff meeting, group therapy, and/or observation of professional in their work capacity. Make time with the professional to ask them your questions. 5-Paper should be a 2-4 page self study of what the experience was like (good or bad is ok), the learning that came from the observation, and the difficulties, stressors you encountered and how you managed those difficulties/stressors. Would you want to work in this capacity in your future or has it steered you away from this type of agency or career, and explain your reasoning.
