InstructionBASIC REQUIREMENTS: Length: 5-7 minutes Visual aid required Outline (using template) required Five credible sources cited in text, orally and MLA works cited Five video peer responses TOPIC CHOICE: Informative speeches are educational. You can pick your own topic. Choose something you would like to educate us about – it can be something you already know or something you want to learn. Pick something that will be interesting for the audience. Technical speeches about your workplace do not tend to be interesting because they are not relevant to a general audience. Similarly, speeches about casual hobbies may be too superficial to fulfill the depth of research needed for a collegiate level speech. You can email me to see if your topic idea is a good fit for this assignment. RECORDING AND DELIVERY: Record head to toe. I need to see the top of your head down to your feet. (Peer responses and your concluding speech may be recorded seated and face only, but all others are head-to-toe and standing). You must be standing. Do not stand behind anything. Set your notes to your side on a table or TV tray. Nothing should be in front of you, covering your body. Do not read your notes from a phone or note cards in your hand; nothing should be in your hands. Do not record “screen capture” or “audio only,” instead record your full self and nothing else. You may not "pause" the recording; it must be continuous. The recording environment must be well lit; lighting should come from the front (not above or behind or below). Turn off your ceiling fan if it is visibly rotating. The camera must be at the correct angle. It should appear to be at eye level, so you are not looking up or down at the camera. The room must be tidy and free of visual distractions. The audio quality must be easy to hear without auditory distractions. You may need to purchase an external microphone. You are not allowed to read your speech. However, you may glance at your notes as often as needed. VISUAL AID AND OUTLINE: Follow the template closely when writing your speech and organize it according to that design. If your outline is correct, your speech will be delivered properly since the outline walks you through what I expect. Upload your visual aid and outline before uploading your speech. The visual aid will not be screened during the speech. Just refer to it verbally (“Please look at my second slide now and you’ll see the chart which explains…”). You must have at least one slide. Quality is more important than quantity. The visual aid must be in Power Point. FIVE VIDEO PEER RESPONSES: Once you have uploaded your speech, you can begin watching the speeches of your peers. This is to support each other. You will watch five peer speeches and record mini-videos in response to them. To earn credit, your video peer responses must be at least 90 seconds long, must refer specifically to other person’s speech, and must provide positive, appropriate comments only (no criticism, no flirting). Peer response videos are face-only and seated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQwanxQmFnc SO IN TOTAL YOU NEED: A power point, an outline based on the organization lectures and the outline template, and the 5-7min Informative speech!!!
