Instruction8 pages 2400 words APA FORMAT The “My Story” assignment will be built from the various written assignments completed in the course blocks. Each of us has only one life to live, so our experiences are limited, but we can learn about life through the stories we hear and read and watch. Think about how much you’ve learned about other people and their experiences by watching films or reading novels, or even by sitting down with a friend or family member and listening to his or her story. In the same way that we learn from listening to stories, we can also learn from telling stories. That may seem odd, but I believe it’s true. Reflecting on our own experiences, shaping them into a story, and then sharing that story--that process can be extremely valuable to us as people, and especially as people who work with others. That’s the motivation behind the final assignment in this course. For this final assignment, you’ll pull together everything you’ve learned about the elements of fiction and consider all the various stories we’ve read as models this semester. Using that information and some of the practice we’ve gained from our weekly assignments, you will write your own story. For this assignment, I’d like the story to be some specific narrative that relates to your experiences within the healthcare field. You could tell the story of the moment when you realized you were destined to be a healthcare professional. You could write the story of your worst or best day at work. You could tell a story that captures what you believe are the greatest challenges nurses or healthcare professionals face, or you can try to capture the challenges that patients confront. You can write this from a first-person perspective and use yourself as a narrator, or you can write it from the eyes of a patient (or a third-person perspective) watching all the things that a healthcare professional has to do. Your options are limitless in a way, but I think the story will come to you easiest if 1) you focus on the healthcare field and 2) you really try to use the opportunity to share what you know (your wisdom).
