InstructionThe last section of chapter 2 concludes with an important concept—synaptic plasticity. This section provides a description of long-term potentiation and long-term depression as they apply to learning. Finally, the chapter explores the effects of sensory enrichment in different environments and the neurodevelopmental influence synaptic plasticity has on the development and maturation of dendritic and axonal architecture. The development of neuronal networks is directly dependent on the perception of sensory experience; the induction of synaptic plasticity-mediated learning results in enhanced neuronal development and interconnectedness. Writing Topic: Use of Drugs to Enhance Cognition A very important topic for discussion is the ethics involved in using drugs to enhance cognition (pp. 57-70). Who should have access to these drugs? Rich people? Poor people? Rich countries? Poor countries? People in certain professions (like athletes, doctors, lawyers, etc.)? What are the dangers of creating a society dependent on such drugs to ensure optimal performance? Who controls or should control access to these medications? What are the benefits? Could we pharmacologically engineer a knowledge-economy society? Could we empty our prisons and fill our universities, using such drugs? Is it unethical to use such drugs under any or all circumstances? How does this topic align with a Christian worldview? Write a two-three page, APA-style paper on the topic of using drugs to enhance cognition which addresses all four of the questions above. The required APA style components include a title page, reference page, in paper citations, 12-point Times-New Roman font, double-spaced, and one-inch margins. The paper requires the use of at least two scholarly references. You may use your textbook (see chapter 2, especially pp. 57-70) or other academic books/journals as scholarly sources.
