Project Summary: For your final assignment, you will need to write an essay of at least 1250 words. In your essay, please consider common fallacies that serve to impede critical thinking. Drawing on news or other media reports, please find one example of each of the following six fallacies and explain the faulty logic involved: Either-or fallacy Post hoc fallacy Straw man fallacy Appeal to authority fallacy Appeal to popularity fallacy Ad hominen fallacy Successful essays will apply information about these fallacies addressed in course readings to current events. This means that you should provide quotations or paraphrases of specific examples of fallacies that you found in news or other media, cite them (MLA or APA format preferred), and apply specific ideas from the course readings to them. It is suggested that you provide the following details for each example: A quotation or paraphrase of the fallacious statement A brief explanation of the context in which the statement was made An indication of the type of fallacy the statement represents and what led you to that conclusion An explanation of where the breakdown in critical thinking occurred and perhaps an explanation of how one might think about the subject of the statement more critically. Your essay should have a works cited or references page. The essay should be double-spaced and submitted as a Microsoft Word file. Please submit your essay by e-mailing____. Note that essays that do not meet the word count requirement are generally not able to respond to the question in enough specificity or detail to be effective. As a result, essays that do not meet the word count will be failed.
