Project Summary: As we round out the end of the semester with two anti-war novels, it is time to put all of your critical analysis skills to use in this final essay. For this paper, you are asked to compare how Johnny Got His Gun and Waiting for the Barbarians each deliver their message against the war before finally making a claim as to which message is more successful and why. Remember to consider details like target audience, symbolism, implicit vs. explicit information, loaded/ barbed language, recurring/repeated themes, and extended metaphors in your analysis. Your essay must be seven pages long (not counting the Works Cited page), follow MLA format, utilize third person voice, and must include at least two outside sources, utilizing in-text citations whenever you reference them as well as a Works Cited page.
