Project Summary: McKee's book on the Dynamics of Southern Politics has walked us through a history of voting in southern states and how representation has reflected participation. I want to supplement this reading with an article from last fall about the rise of Latino voters (as registrants). I also want you to read this article (pdf) from last fall in Texas Monthly that drills down the importance of primary voters. Then do some research on your own to write at least two pages: Is party identification among Latinos in the South changing? Are Latino voters participating more often? If so, where? What is at stake if Latino voters are participating in one political party's primary more than another, participating more in both, or opting not to vote in a primary? Tell me what you have seen by naming the state and election (you may pick 2018, 2020, or 2022). I ask you to do some research on this, because CNN and the New York Times don't agree.
