Project Summary: 1.The Inner Life of the Counselor describes humility as necessary for being able to assist clients. They describe it as the ability to fully appreciate our inner gifts and our current "growing edges" in ways that enable us to learn, act, and flow with our lives as never before (Wicks, 2012). In my own words, the concept of humility just means being able to be down to earth and humble. To be able to be grateful for things both in my control and out of my control and understand that as a professional I do not have the answers for everything and am not an expert in everything. I think it is crucial and beneficial for counselors to have humility in order to have empathy and understanding for clients. Without being humble and expecting to be an expert in our client's experiences, we cannot be able to understand and help them progress through the struggles they are going through.
