Project Summary: In this segment of the class, we will have explored the transition from traditional empires to one based primarily upon religious faith. The sudden rise of Islamic power, combined with the dominance of Christianity in post-Roman Europe, created an entirely new environment that ushered in the Middle Ages. In a report of 1000 words or so, I would like you to address the following questions: 1) How were these empires different from the Persian and Roman Empires that had preceded them? 2) How did the shift from political loyalty (relationships between people and their rulers) to religious loyalty (relationships between people and a shared faith) change the way society operated?
