Project Summary: To complete this exam answer the three following questions in three separate, typed essays. Writing instructions are listed below. 1. Some historians have argued that the Maryland and Pennsylvania colonies overall had similar societies and cultures. Other scholars argue that these colonies had fundamentally different in society and culture. 2. What methods did southern planters used to dominate slaves in the colonial period? How did slaves attempt to resist this domination? 3. Some historians have argued that the seeds of the American Revolution lay in the French and Indian War. Other scholars argue that the American Revolution arose for other reasons. Which position might you agree more with? Why? Take Home Exam Instructions: 1. Answer each set of questions above in three separate essays. Write essays that demonstrate an understanding of the relevant course material (i.e. the assigned readings and video lectures) and an ability to think critically about the historical topics under consideration. 2. Each essay should be roughly 500-750 words, typed and double spaced with standard set margins. Proper pronunciation and grammar will count to a degree in the exam grade. 3. Your essays should contain a respectable number of facts and quotes from the video lectures and assigned reading. Outside sources such as other books or the internet are not relevant for this assignment. You do not need to provide footnotes or in-text citation but use quotation marks for direct quotes and do not copy text or otherwise plagiarize under any circumstances.
