Project Summary: Philosophy 205B, Prof. Hitt Your second paper revisits the topic of your presentation. Unlike the presentation that aimed to remain neutral on a bioethics issue, in this paper you will take a side. Youll want to present reasons for a position namely, provide an argument. In short, write a paper that (1) identifies your main thesis or conclusion (2) outlines key reasons that support your position, (3) state reasonable considerations that would seem to disfavor your position as well as (4) your reasons to discount what is stated in (3). The paper should be sufficiently narrow compared to the presentation. Importantly, depending on your topic, the paper should focus on bioethics within the profession as opposed to bioethics for society at large or the layperson. 1. This is a 4 page paper with standard formatting (1 margins, 12 pt font). Title page (include name, class # and section #, topic of paper) and bibliography do not count toward the 4 pages.2. A minimum of four reliable sources with bibliography following the Chicago Manual of Style. Two of the sources must be reliable journal articles or chapters in a bioethics anthology (see our library). Dictionaries, your textbook, Wikipedia, web encyclopedias, blogs, social media and the like, will not be counted toward the minimum. [Note, most web-based sources are actually PRINT sources, as the material has been printed and so must be cited as a print source!]. A letter grade reduction (e.g., 3.15 (B+) to a 3.0 (B)) will be included in you paper grade for failure to meet (1) and a letter grade reduction (e.g., 2.85 (B) to a 2.5 (B-)) will be included in your paper for failure to meet (2).I strongly recommend SVSUs Writing Center (Zahnow 308 (third floor library)) as a place to help further develop your writing, help on citation style, or a place to get you started.By the due date, turn in both a hard copy to my office (Brown 350) and a submission of your paper to Turnitin.com (directions available on CANVAS). Students agree that by taking this course all required papers may be subject to submission for textual similarity review to Turnitin.com for the detection of plagiarism. All submitted papers will be included as source documents in the Turnitin.com reference database solely for the purpose of detecting plagiarism of such papers. Use of the Turnitin.com service is subject to the terms of use agreement posted on the Turnitin.com site.
