Project Summary: Journal Article Critique Exercises Perhaps the optimal way to digest empirical research and become a more refined social scientist is to evaluate the research of others. At two different points of the semester, you will be provided a published and peer reviewed journal article and will be required to draft a 1 page summary of the overall quality of the manuscript. Your essay should contain an overall evaluation of the article, as well as assessments of the conceptualization and measurement of the variables, the sampling designs, the data collection techniques, the ethics of the study, internal and external validity, authenticity, etc. These exercises are designed to instill in you the skills necessary to become not only consumers of research, but critics as well.
