Student reply: The main differences between the 1910 and the 1915 is the type of work is more dangerous. The shipyards are dealing with a lot of different elements. The main thing the standard talks about is the competent person. It also discusses the different areas that are considered a confined space. But like I said in my previous post these types of standards should be different because of the types of work they are dealing with. If so, why. If not, why? student reply: Yes, I think that confined and enclosed spaces and other dangerous atmosphere in shipyard employment standards have reduced the hazards of barge cleaning. Any time you are dealing a with a confined space there is going to be hazards. Cleaning the barges are more likely to cause incidents because they are a lot more dangerous than other types of work on a shipyard. There are not only the hazards of being in a confined space but cleaning while in this confined space increases the risk of being exposed to chemicals. The standard reduces the risk and increases training for the employees. That was the employees knows the hazards and knows what to do in a situation if something bad occurs. By teaching the employees this, they will perform he job safer and will know the hazards that are associated with barge cleaning. YOU have to reply to this massage of the student.
