InstructionFor this reaction paper, you will select TWO podcasts from the list in the Supplemental Resources document attached. Some of the topics in these podcasts we’ve covered already; others will be covered later. Take your time choosing which two podcasts to review. Stick to podcasts that you find interesting. As you listen (or re-listen) to the podcasts, take good notes. Write down critical details and concepts. Once you have selected two podcasts from the list attached, follow these steps. 1. Listen to the podcasts in their entirety. This will give an understanding of the topics, the format of the show(s), findings, etc. You may want to re-listen to the podcasts in their entirety or just some segments. 2. Summarize and clearly present the key points and main objective of the podcasts. Consider the following questions from an expository (informational) perspective: What are the main points? How do they relate to the psychology of sport? Is any background information necessary to understand the story? Who are the sources in each piece? What is their credibility? What are the main findings? What evidence/details support the main topics? Is there any controversy surrounding the topics? Is there any intended outcome or action to be taken by the audience? 3. After developing the expository elements of the podcast, work on the rhetorical analysis. Think about the structure and presentation of the information and how they contribute to the overall success of the pieces. Who is the audience for each piece? Do the creators/hosts of the podcast hold credibility with this audience? What language and stylistic choices are used? What is the tone of the episodes and how is it established? What mood is the host trying to establish? Consider the musical choices, sound effects, commentary, etc. 4. This final section focuses on the conclusions drawn after listening to and analyzing the podcast. Were the podcasts ultimately successful in meeting their aim? What were the most effective moments? What were the shortcomings? What is your main takeaway after listening to each episode? Have they impacted you? Is there any lasting image, impression, or impact they made on you? Do you find yourself wanting to share the podcasts with a friend, take action, or follow up on some of the research presented? Have they changed your attitude, opinion, or perspective on a topic? Did you learn something new? If so, what? Have you learned something useful? If so, what? And how can you use it? Can you relate the topic to the psychology of performance? These questions should provide some guidance as you develop your essay. They do not all have to be covered. If you’re choosing to write your essay, try to keep your analysis to no more than five pages. Alternatively, a one-pager may be submitted. Get creative! Please leave a reference page with whatever sources you use !
